How to dress up as Spice Girls for Halloween {Group Costume DIY}
November 11, 2017
If you follow my blog and/or my IG (I hope you follow both), you’ll probably know that I love puns…a lot. I use them everywhere! So, it seems fitting that our Halloween group costumes at work is also a pun. And, our team decided to dress up as Spice Girls!
Now, we’re not your favourite girl group from the 90s, we’re literally a spice you might find in your pantry. And to make things more interesting and funny, we put a cultural spin on our costumes.
Now, we’re not your favourite girl group from the 90s, we’re literally a spice you might find in your pantry. And to make things more interesting and funny, we put a cultural spin on our costumes.
Here’s what you'll need:
- 2 x Bristol boards per costume
- Red ribbons or strings
- Glue stick or tape
- Scissors
- Printer
- Stapler
- Red top hat (you could find it in party stores)
- Hole puncher
Instructions:
- Download my labels here.
- Print each template out onto two landscape-oriented Legal-sized paper in colour. To break the image in half when printing, you’ll need to select “tiling” in your printing settings and select “overlap by 0.5 in”. This will allow a 0.5” overlapping area for you to apply glue and to stick the sheets together.
- Glue the full image onto 1 horizontal Bristol board. This will be the front of your costume.
- Print the barcode image onto a full size Letter-sized paper in black.
- Glue barcode image onto the lower bottom of the Bristol board down the middle.
- Form a cylinder with the 2 Bristol boards with the images outside.
- Staple the sides of the Bristol boards while adjusting the circumference of the boards so that there’s enough room for you to remove your costume. (We’ve concluded that it was easier to staple down the shape while wrapping yourself with the boards)
- Punch two holes at the front and two holes at the back of the board.
- To create shoulder straps, insert a strip of ribbon into one of the holes from the outside of the board and connect with the opposite end of the hole. Tie knot from the inside of the cylinder.
- Repeat above step for the other shoulder strap

UPDATE* - As per popular requests, I'm selling the EDITABLE TEMPLATE for you to make your own spices. You'll need Photoshop to open the editable file. Just change the text for the spices and add in your own graphic. If you're NOT familiar with using Photoshop, I've also included a blank template in the files where you can add your own text and graphics using programs such as Canva or Microsoft Word. Once you've edited the labels, you can follow the steps above the same way to make your own Spice Girls Costumes.

Happy Creating!

This is an amazing idea and you are so vert talented! I have a group of 12 year old softball players (13 total) going to the softball Nationals if a few weeks. Would you be interested in making a few more templates (Pumpkin Pie, Allspice, Nutmeg, Pickling, Chili, Rosemary) so we can use this for our opening day costumes? Thank you for your consideration! Stacy

ReplyDeleteHello! These are really cute and clever. Happy to use what you created, except that there is a typo on the templates. They all say NET TW - it is supposed to be NET WT (net weight). Thanks for a neat idea!
ReplyDeleteCan you possibly send me templates for other spices as well? I have a group of 15 teachers who would love to do this! Maybe paprika, basil, nutmeg, chili powder, cayenne pepper, oregano, thyme, etc. I can pay for them!
