Rudolph the Reindeer Christmas Cake Pops {Tutorial}
December 18, 2019You've probably started counting down the days until Christmas and finishing up the holiday shopping. But you can't really spend the holidays without making something adorable for your family and friends, right? Every year, I tried to make something special for the holidays. And today, I'm sharing this tutorial on how to make these adorable looking Rudolph Reindeer Christmas cake pops! If you have a Christmas party or pot luck coming up, these are great to make ahead of time. And plus, both kids and adults would love them too! I like to wrap these with a small cellophane bag so the kiddos can take them home and eat them later.
For the base, I used a classic vanilla recipe and dipped the pops in S'mores candy melt. The S'mores flavour tasted great and gave a little more than the typical chocolate. Plus, it's also brown in colour which is just what I needed for the reindeers.
Base - {Vanilla Cake Pops}
Ingredients
1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
Reindeer Decorations
You'll need:
S'mores/chocolate candy melt (Mine was Wilton brand)
Candy eyeballs
Red M&Ms
Pretzels
Pretzels
Lollipop sticks/skewer sticks
Cellophane bags (optional)
Ribbon (optional)
Instructions
- Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Set aside
- In a separate bowl, beat together butter and sugar until light and creamy. Beat in eggs and vanilla
- Alternately blend in flour mixture and milk into butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture
- Pour mixture into pastry piping bag and cut the tip off
- Pipe mixture to heated cake pop machine and cook for about 4 minutes
- Let the cake pops cool
You can make the cake pops separately on one day and assemble the pops (dipping them into the melt) on another day. You'd just need to make sure you store the cake pops away in a sealed container and inside the fridge.
Assembling the Cake Pops
- Melt the S'mores candy melts in a small, deep bowl by microwaving for 30-second intervals. Stir them every 30 seconds to see if the candy melts are melted. If not, continue this step until they are fully melted.
- Dip lollipop sticks or skewer sticks into candy melt and insert into the cake pops
- Repeat for all cake pops
- Dip cake pops into candy melt to cover them completely. Tap the sticks to the bowl in order to get rid of extras. You could swirl the cake pops as you do this step to get an even coating.
- Let them cool completely
- Take a piece of pretzel and break it into halves. I find the full-sized pretzel to be a bit too big and out of proportion for the cake pop.
- Dip the ends of the pretzel into the candy melt and stick them on the cake pops. These will be the antlers
- Take the candy eyes and dip them into the candy melt and stick them on the cake pops. Now your reindeer has eyes!
- I used red M&Ms for the nose. Dip the M&Ms into the candy melt and stick them on the cake pops. Rudolph now has a very shiny nose!
I like to do all my coating first before I get to the decorations. I find that to be more time-efficient and easier to manage otherwise the coating might be hardened before you can stick your decorations on.
Wrap these in a clear, cellophane bag and attach a gift tag to go along with them! I'm giving away these free printable gift tags that you can print at home.
